Board Members, Donors and Supporters of HKCHC Awarded HKSAR Honours

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government announced the 2024 honours list and appointments of Justices of the Peace (JPs) on 1 July. Some members of the Board of Governors, donors, and supporters of Hong Kong Chu Hai College (HKCHC) were among the honourees.

Professor Lee Chack Fan and Mr. Lam Shu Chit, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of HKCHC, were awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal, the highest level of award under the HKSAR honours and awards system. Mr. Robert Ng Chee Siong, who generously sponsored the "Ng Teng Fong • Sino Group Belt and Road Institute" at the College, Dr. Tan Siu Lin and Ir. Professor Chan Ching Chuen, who rendered tremendous support for the College's development, were awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star.

The five distinguished honourees have made significant contributions to Hong Kong, benefiting the well-being of various sectors in the society. Mr. Lam Kwong Siu, Chairman of the Board of Governors of HKCHC, extends heartfelt congratulations to them and highly appreciates their dedicated public service and outstanding contributions to Hong Kong. He hopes these encouraging recognitions can serve as a model to inspire all members of the Board of Governors and the College Council to continue working together in unity and synergy, collaborating with the College to create a brilliant future and strive for talent development.

Interim President Jane Zhang expressed that the College is committed to nurturing outstanding talents who embrace Chinese culture and heritage, equipped with professional expertise, global perspectives and social responsibilities. HKCHC will organize a celebration ceremony to showcase exemplary stories of the College’s Board of Governors, donors and supporters achieving remarkably in their public services. This will inspire the College's faculty, staff and students to move forward together, serving our society and country.

 Professor the Honourable Lee Chack Fan, GBM, GBS, JP

Professor Lee Chack Fan is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Director of Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole at the University of Hong Kong, and the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Palace Museum. He is a renowned expert in geotechnical engineering and hydropower and has participated in many key engineering projects of our country. He is also a prominent leader in Hong Kong's higher education sector.

Professor Lee previously served as the Supervisor and President of Hong Kong Chu Hai College and currently is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors. Professor Lee steered the establishment of the Centre of Buddhist Studies and the distinctive Master's programme in Buddhist Studies at the College. During his presidency, he successfully led the College to acquire the approvals for seven Statements of Program Area Accreditation (PAA) across arts, commerce, science and technology, set a milestone for the College's development.

Professor Lee is also dedicated to promoting Chinese traditional culture and has played an instrumental role in facilitating a range of cultural, artistic, and educational activities at the College, showcase the enriching experience at the College and profound development.

 The Honourable Lam Shu Chit, GBM, GBS

Mr. Lam Shu Chit, Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of Hong Kong Chu Hai College, is a prominent community leader. He has led various clansmen organizations and hometown associations, cultivates strong connections with fellow Fujian natives in Hong Kong and actively promotes exchanges between Fujian and Hong Kong.

Mr. Lam is dedicated to education and passionate about philanthropy. In 2021, he was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of HKCHC. He actively engages in College affairs and generously supports the college's development. In early 2024, he made a significant donation to the college, establishing the "So Sau Lin Exhibition Hall" in memory of his late mother. This exhibition hall provides an excellent venue for diverse and meaningful exhibitions and activities, benefiting our students.

Mr. Robert Ng Chee Siong, GBS

 

Mr. Robert Ng Chee Siong is the Chairman of the Sino Group and a prominent figure in real estate development and hotel businesses in Hong Kong. Mr. Ng is committed to caring for Hong Kong, and under his leadership, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has played a vital role in supporting education and the development of HKCHC. In 2023, the Foundation made a generous donation to the College to establish and sponsor the "Ng Teng Fong • Sino Group Belt and Road Institute." Additionally, the Foundation has provided fundings for organizing the "Ng Teng Fong • Sino Presidential Distinguished Lecture" series we proudly present. Furthermore, Mr. Ng's son, Mr. Alexander Ng, serves as a member of our Board of Governors, providing strong support for the College's development.

Dr. Tan Siu Lin, GBS

Dr. Tan Siu Lin is a renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, and patriotic overseas Chinese. He is dedicated to supporting charitable welfare and the development of cultural and educational endeavours. Dr. Tan played a pivotal role in the establishment of the "Tan Siu Lin Foundation" and has generously donated over a hundred million yuan over the past 30 years for various charitable activities. His contributions encompass a wide range of fields, including promoting education, assisting the disabled, establishing medical facilities and supporting orphans.

Dr. Tan's philanthropic efforts extend to diverse areas, including disaster relief, elderly care, disability assistance, orphan rescue, poverty relief, education, and medical assistance. He is passionate about educational and charitable endeavours, concerns about and offers support to the development of HKCHC .

Professor CHAN Ching Chuen, GBS

Professor Chan Ching Chuen is the first person in Hong Kong to have been elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. For many years, he has actively engaged in research and development of electric machines and power systems. His shinning contributions to cross-disciplinary exchanges in the scientific community include fostering technological advancements and innovation, as well as laying a solid foundation for modern electric vehicles.

More, Professor Chan is deeply passionate about education and wholeheartedly supports the development of HKCHC. As a testament to his commitment, he has as acceded to be the honorary guest speaker at the College's 74th graduation ceremony. Additionally, he will deliver a talk and share his experience at the "Ng Teng Fong • Sino Presidential Distinguished Lecture" series.
